HALLOWEEN HULLABALOO A SUCCESS

Much to our delight, our annual Halloween party turned out to be an absolutely rip-snorting success, with everyone who attended singing its praises to the highest. From the quality of the venue to the fantastic music and light show provided by Polar Sound, this was definitely one of the best organized and best attended parties we've put on for a long time indeed.

The evening had many highlights, but without question the brightest was the dance-off for the two finalists in the "sexiest costume" competition. For those of you who missed it, let's just say it was one of the hottest tie-breakers you could ever see. It was a sizzling performance that won't likely be topped for a very long time. We hope to get some photos (and possibly a video) posted here soon.

We're particularly pleased to have seen a great many new faces at this event; we hope we were able to make you feel welcome and that you'll come to future events. Our DJ for the party, Jumpin' Jim Landriault of Polar Sound, honoured us with the début of a new laser emitter he recently added to his light show. It created a spectacular display of colour that helped make what was already a fantastic set of music even more enjoyable. Most importantly, however, we're eternally grateful to those of you who so generously gave cash donations to Pride despite our waiving of the admission fee - one of the surprises mentioned in our publicity campaign for the party. Thank you so much indeed.

We thank the following for their contributions to our Halloween Hullabaloo:

Adolphus Wellness Centre
Michael Bellefeuille
Best Western Parkway Inn
Bob Browning
Cornwall Fine Wines
Patti Edwards
Jim Landriault/Polar Sound
Quick Change Costume Shop
Roger's Paint Shop
Roy's Pools

Most of all, we thank you, the Queer community of Cornwall and our straight allies, for making it such an evening to remember. We hope you had fun.

NEW EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE ELECTED

We're pleased to announce that Pride/Fierté Cornwall will soon be led by a newly elected and restructured executive committee. At a meeting held on Tuesday, October 13th, members of Keeping Cornwall Pridafull (the grassroots initiative started to renew Pride) gathered to elect a slate of candidates to the board. The following were acclaimed:

Melina Vallee - President
Paul Aubin - Vice-President (also responsible for publicity, media relations and Internet content)
Chad MacKiddie - Treasurer
Amanda Ensor - Secretary
Natasha Allaire - Event Coordinator

Members of the new board will introduced to the LGBT community at Pride's Halloween Hullabaloo on Saturday, October 31st and will formally assume power the next day. They will meet for the first time in their official capacity on Tuesday, November 10th. Once in office, a number of substantial changes to Pride's policies and procedures will be gradually implemented which we hope will broaden our support base. These will be announced in due course.

The members of the new committee are very much looking forward to working together. They are indeed hopeful that the infusion of new people and ideas will help restore Pride/Fierté Cornwall's esteem in the Queer community.

PRIDE/FIERTÉ CORNWALL AT THE PARADE OF NATIONS

A delegation from Pride/Fierté Cornwall took part in the third annual Parade of Nations on Saturday, September 26th. This year a total of sixteen people from Cornwall's LGBT community took part, including Miss Gay National Capital 2008, Zelda Marshall. Many of those who attended carried the flags of other nations in the march down Montréal Road from St. Lawrence College to the Cornwall Lions Club bandshell in Lamoureux Park.

This was truly a momentous occasion for Pride. Although a rainbow flag was carried in last year's parade, this was the first time we were there in an official capacity. In fact, ours was one of the biggest groups in attendance, which is an amazing honour indeed. Click on this link to the Cornwall Free News for a short video of some of the procession in Lamoureux Park, including a shot of Zelda proudly carrying the rainbow flag.

We would like to thank Marie Morrell, chair of the Parade of Nations, for inviting us to take part in this year's parade. We would also like to thank all of you who came to represent Cornwall's Queer community. If we can get sixteen people out this year, just imagine how many we could have in 2010!
